縄文時代草創期の遺跡からも発掘されている大麻は、ほんの数十年前まで日々の暮らしの中に当たり前のように存在したもの。清らかで美しいその繊維を生かすようにしつらえた。中央は独特の光沢を持つ精麻(茎の表皮を取り除き、靭皮部分を取り出したもの)を赤米とともに結わえた。左には精麻を糸用に加工した「打麻(うちそ)」に稲とアカマツを、右にはオオバナサルスベリの実を添えた。

Found in dig sites dating back to the early Jomon period, hemp was a nearly omnipresent feature of our lives until a few decades ago. Its elegant fibers lend their beauty to this arrangement. The item at center features seima (made by discarding the bark of the stalk and pulling out the fiber) interwoven with red rice. On the left, uchiso (seima processed into thread) is topped off with rice and red pine, while on the right, jarul fruits provide an accent.
